Small choices can have a big impact and choosing Fairtrade products can really make a world of difference to those who help to make them. Fairtrade Fortnight is the time when the movement comes together to shine a light on the problems farmers still face, and how we can all be part of the solution by choosing Fairtrade!

Fairtrade actively invest time and funds in projects which aim to make fairness the new normal. By connecting farmers to governments, research institutions and private companies, Fairtrade supports the development of low-income countries, helping them to secure a more stable future.

On top of fair prices, Fairtrade farmers receive the Fairtrade Premium – an additional sum of money that they can choose to invest in a way that they see fit. That could be more books at the local school, improved water pipes, electricity, new roads or investing in their farms.

In low-income countries around the world, unfair prices and wages prevent farmers from protecting biodiversity and tackling climate change. With better incomes and financial support, they’re able to invest in the adaptations needed to continue farming through changes in climate, whilst protecting the environment around them by using farming methods that ensure a low-carbon economy.

Did you know that all Fairtrade farmers are offered environmental training? This gives them the tools they need to develop their soils, crops, and water conservation systems to make them more resilient to change.

As well as being Fairtrade certified, organic certification is equally as important to us. Organic farming has huge potential to soften the impact of climate change. Healthy soils contain three times as much carbon as the atmosphere and five times as much as forests, stopping more CO2 from entering the atmosphere. This shows fantastic promise in the fight against climate change.
