at home with the dip & doze team
Meet a few members of the Dip & Doze team and discover what we’re learning and doing whilst at home.
George, Founder
how are you starting your day?
I wake early… to a screaming 6 month old baby who is ready to get up (but I haven’t had to set my alarm for 6 months which is actually really nice!) followed by getting him from his little cot and taking him downstairs for bath time in his little tub — which I am sure he is too big for, he ends up flooding the kitchen every morning!
what is the silver lining in this?
I’m hopeful that we can all eventually emerge from this with new perspectives and gratitude. I hope the movement we’ve seen of re-connecting with nature and thinking more deeply about what really matters in the bigger picture is one that will continue indefinitely.
what are you learning?
I guess like for so many, it’s that social interaction and contact between humans is what really makes life so special.
what are you reading & listening to?
I have recently been introduced to 8D music… wow it’s amazing! The music moves all around you!
how are you boosting your mood?
I like to make ‘stuff’, normally with wood, so I always try and have a little side project on the go. So far I have made an outdoor table, built some raised flower beds… oh and made a bird box haha. I have also been running and cycling more than usual — if my body allows it that is! The incredible weather during April and May has also definitely helped provide a mood boost.
what are you eating & drinking?
Most days are based around meals in our house so we have been eating all sorts. We eat pretty healthily during the week… but really badly at the weekend! Drink wise I make fresh green juices, water, coffee and wine, oh and G&T’s… all in equal measures of course!

how are you starting your day?
With yoga and a matcha latte. It’s nice to have a little extra time to enjoy mornings with no travel time to the office.
what is the silver lining in this?
More love, more compassion, more solidarity. I hope that we are all stronger and more connected after this, that after having time for reflection we can all return to life with a little less rushing and more gratitude for our surroundings and empathy for people around the world.
what are you learning?
Not to take anything for granted. Not to think too much about the future and to live in the present moment.
what are you reading & listening to?
My book taste really runs the gamut, haha. Since lockdown started I’ve read A Theatre for Dreamers by polly Samson, Modern Love by Daniel Jones, At the Existentialist Café by Sarah Bakewell and Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse. Next I’m going to re-read The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.
how are you boosting your mood?
Putting on some reggae music and dancing around the house! And savouring the small things — like watching the reflections and dancing light change and move throughout the day from a glass vase filled with foraged branches I put on my windowsill next to my working space.
what are you eating & drinking?
Plenty of banana bread and pancakes at the weekend! When we eat our evening meal, whichever country the recipe originates from, we’ll listen to music from the same country or watch a movie that’s based there! I’m drinking ginger teas, iced turmeric lattes and in the evenings sometimes a spiced chai tea (Google Jamie Oliver’s recipe).
Zahra, eCommerce Team
how are you starting your day?
With a coffee, always.
what is the silver lining in this?
Personal positives are the extra 20 minutes sleep! And I have started reading again. I forgot how much I love it. The challenges lockdown has presented have also created a newfound appreciation for my ‘normal everyday life’ and all the tiny pleasures that are usually unnoticed. I hope we will all remember to appreciate everything, from the big things to the tiny, that we can’t do now.
what are you learning?
That 95% of my social life involves eating out! The pros and cons of working from home, and how important it is to get some fresh air and be be present.
what are you reading & listening to?
I listen to the dip & doze spotify playlists and read a few pages of The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse by Charlie Mackesy each day — a book a book celebrating kindness, compassion & understanding that’s filled with inspirational paintings & words you can treasure forever. Two other books I’ve just finished that kept me page turning into the night were Little Fires Everywhere and Where the Crawdads Sing.
how are you boosting your mood?
I’ve found the kitchen to be one of my favourite spots in the house and I’ve been cooking up my favourite meals (sometimes stretching my culinary skills to work without certain ingredients I’m not able to get hold of). I also make sure I go outside everyday (actually, with the exception of when it’s pouring with rain!) to get some fresh air and clear my mind.
what are you eating & drinking?
Plenty of hot cross buns! I also love making super simple smoothies for a delicious boost. My go to core ingredients are 1/2 mango, 300ml of rice or oat milk, 1 tsp honey, 1/2 tsp of fresh ginger and then the final ingredient I mix up. Sometimes 1/2 tsp of turmeric and sometimes a handful of spinach.
That’s all for now! We hope you’re all cosy, safe & well ♥
