mental health day 2025: 6 tips to finding daily balance

On 10th October, Mental Health Awareness day once again takes centre stage. Offering us the chance to pause, reflect, and bring our inner wellbeing into focus.

This year, the theme is Community. A fitting reminder that connection is a cornerstone of mental wellbeing: gathering with loved ones, exchanging stories over tea, joining a yoga class, or stopping to share a smile with a neighbour. These simple acts nurture a sense of safety and belonging within us. But in order to show up for others, we first need to show up for ourselves each day.

So, here are some mindful ways to help support your mental health.

1. morning rituals set the tone for your day

The first 30–60 minutes after waking are golden. Neuroscientists call this window the “brain’s most impressionable state”—when your actions can set the tone for mental balance across the day.

For many of us, it’s a refreshing shower—a reset that signals to the mind: the day begins here. Even the tactile details of this routine matter. Wrapping yourself in the softest towel becomes more than a comfort; it’s a grounding moment.

Our organic cotton towels and robes are the perfect everyday luxury. Free of any harsh chemicals, they’re kinder to your skin and the planet. A small reminder that what you surround yourself with can influence how you feel.

After you come round, why not also consider adding light movement into your “golden” morning timeframe: a few grounding stretches or a quick, slow-flow yoga sequence (more on this shortly!). Pair with a breakfast that nourishes both body and mind:

Chia pudding: rich in omega-3s for brain health.

Overnight oats: for steady, slow-releasing energy.

Smoothies with adaptogens: (like ashwagandha or reishi) to ease anxiety.

Fermented foods: (a spoonful of natural yoghurt, kefir, or miso) to nurture gut health, which is increasingly recognised as central to mental wellbeing.

2. wholefoods are key

Food is not just fuel; it’s information for the body. Eating wholefoods helps stabilise blood sugar, supporting steady moods and better focus. Magnesium-rich leafy greens, zinc-packed seeds or oily fish with omega-3s—each plays a quiet role in balancing our nervous system.

3. movement is medicine

One of our favourite new wellness waves? Short “micro-movements” sprinkled through the day. Gentle yoga flows. A quick thirty minute walk with the dog. Posture resets for those working on laptops. Moving not for achievement, but for release. Because after all, the body and mind are inseparable; to free one is to ease the other.

We’ve long been fascinated by the incredible ancient healing practice of yoga. And what’s even better than yoga for maintaining happiness? Pairing it with breathwork.

4. meditation & breathwork

Meditation can sometimes feel intimidating, but at its heart, it is simply about listening inward. Even five minutes a day makes a difference. Here’s a simple practice to soothe anxiety:

  1. Find a quiet spot and sit comfortably.
  2. Close your eyes and place a hand on your chest, another on your belly.
  3. Inhale slowly through your nose for 4 counts.
  4. Hold gently for 2 counts.
  5. Exhale through your mouth for 6 counts.
  6. Repeat for 5–10 rounds.

This simple breath pattern tells your nervous system you are safe. Over time, it builds inner steadiness, clarity, and mental resilience.

5. the slow art of healthy downtime

In the hustle and bustle of daily life, choosing to slow down becomes an act of self-care. Curling up with a book instead of scrolling. Lighting a candle. Surrounding yourself with comforts that are gentle on the planet, as well as on you.

This is why we see bedding as part of this wider lifestyle. Because it’s not just where you sleep, but where you might read, rest or journal.

6. good sleep is the foundation of wellbeing

Studies continue to show just how much restorative sleep helps regulate mood, improve focus, and reduce anxiety. Poor or fragmented sleep, on the other hand, is linked to heightened stress and irritability.

Think of deep, uninterrupted rest as your body’s most natural antidepressant. And it all begins with creating the right environment.

At Dip & Doze, our Fairtrade-certified organic cotton bedding and natural linen bedding is designed with this in mind. It helps provide you with breathable sleep that regulates temperature, feels soft against the skin, and allows your body to fall into its natural rhythm of rest.
